Programming, coding, creating programs and
applications and all the nerdy names, they do it. Software developer, computer
scientist, information technology(IT) expert are just some of the code names we
give to these ‘geeks’. I used to think they were extremely nerdy until I
stumbled upon one semester of computer science. In the midst of overly placed semicolons and weird brackets I
came to really understand what computer science is all about. Computer
scientists are not just nerds who speak a language only they can understand,
surely they speak in codes but that’s because they are speaking to a machine-
the computer. What they really do is something we all do on a daily basis;
problem solving.
Yes;
we computer scientists solve problems. We are the people who automate
everything from laundry to medical examination. We are the kind of people who
won’t sleep until an application is final and usable. Yes, even though we appear to be aliens, we
are not here for war, we are just passionate citizens working to simplify life.
It
is not negotiable that computer science has completely changed civilization
over the past few years. Isaac Newton, used his head to solve calculus
problems. Well, he is Newton ,he can make anything look easy. Now anyone can
solve 98*sqrt(128e) in seconds, thanks to the invention of small computer called
a calculator. In Newton’s era, the only means to communicate was by post also
known as snail mail; and trust it is called snail for a reason. Right now, you
can have a video conference with just about anyone irrespective of where they
come from; thanks to the little devil called internet technology. A lot has
changed since Newton’s and for the most part we owe it all to the freaks closed
up in dark rooms writing languages no
other human will be understand.
Technology
as we know it has advanced from generation to generation and in some cases
rather dramatically. Who knew today we would be able to wear gadgets over our eyes, or
locate anyplace on the surface of our planet. I don’t know if anyone foresaw
that but I do know that nerds like Larry Page, Sergery Bin, Mark Zucherberg,
Rear Admiral Grace Hopper and Bill Gates have played a major role. Lets
celebrate these history makers by appreciating that technology is
fun and how it makes life ever funner! ( yeah funner is more than more fun).
